The Rector of TUD Dresden University of Technology (TUD), Prof. Ursula Staudinger, has, on behalf of Dresden's Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert, been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Marwa El-Sherbini Scholarship for Open-Mindedness and Tolerance. The scholarship supports students from Dresden universities who actively advocate for freedom, democracy and human rights. In cooperation with DRESDEN-concept, the Free State of Saxony and the City of Dresden are awarding the scholarship for the sixth time in memory of Marwa El-Sherbini. Ursula Staudinger will receive her certificate of appointment today, September 11, 2025, at a meeting of the Advisory Board.
Since 2011, the goal of the Marwa El-Sherbini Scholarship for Open-Mindedness and Tolerance has been to support future leaders and specialists who assume societal responsibility. The appointment of TUD Rector Ursula Staudinger underlines her commitment to these values, which are also of central importance for the TUD as a globally oriented yet regionally anchored university. Since taking office as TUD Rector in 2020, Staudinger has also been the organizer of the annual Human Chain on February 13 to commemorate the WWII bombing of Dresden.
The scholarship supports students who are committed to intercultural dialogue, democracy and civic courage with a monthly stipend of EUR 750 for a maximum of two years. The criteria for receiving funding include good to very good academic performance, intercultural skills, and ongoing civic engagement.
