UN Day Dresden 2026 with TUD Participation: Rethinking Mobility Together
Registration is now open for UN Day Dresden on November 5, 2026. Under the theme “Rethinking Mobility,” the event at the New City Hall will bring together perspectives from academia, urban policy, public transportation, and civil society. The program also includes the presentation of the 27th Dresden Local Agenda Award.
Mobility determines how people access education, work, and essential services of daily life – and how independently they can participate in social life. Sustainable mobility therefore also means considering accessibility, safety, and the use of public space alongside climate and resource protection.
To kick off the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035) , this year’s UN Day in Dresden links Sustainable Development Goal 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities” with specific questions of urban development: How can public transit, walking, cycling, and shared mobility services better meet people’s needs? What role can data-driven planning play? And how can public participation help develop solutions that prove effective in everyday life?
The event brings together contributions from the Dresden University of Technology – in particular the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences – the State Capital of Dresden, UNU Resource Nexus, and the Dresden Local Agenda. Additional perspectives from VVO and ver.di complement the discussion with insights on transportation services and everyday mobility.
The panel discussion will focus on the interplay between scientific findings, political feasibility, and societal expectations. This exchange offers the opportunity to link international sustainability goals to concrete local decisions – and to bring experiences from municipal practice into the broader discussion on sustainable development.
The subsequent presentation of the 27th Dresden Local Agenda Award honors local initiatives that are already helping to shape sustainable urban development today. This year, the Audience Choice Award places a special emphasis on the topic of mobility. The evening will feature musical accompaniment by the Dresden Public Transportation Authority (DVB) choir. The event is also supported by the DFG Collaborative Research Center AgiMo on data-driven, agile planning for responsible mobility.
