First port of call for support during your studies – “At work with....” Florian Dietzsch, who works as the SCS
What do I need to bear in mind when applying to TU Dresden? How can I find my feet at the uni? What do I do if I forget to re-register? Florian Dietzsch has got your back and can answer these (and many more) questions at the ServiceCenterStudies (SCS). In this installment of the “At work with...” video series, he gives us a glimpse into his work at the Fritz Foerster Building.
“My colleagues and I are like a compass for students and prospective students, in that we answer all kinds of questions and point them in the right direction. Who can help me with this specific problem?” The university is a big place and, especially if you’re new, it’s not always clear who you can turn to.
Florian Dietzsch has worked at the SCS for almost three years now. He loves that his job allows him to talk to a lot of different people: “This is always a new kind of challenge for me, but also an opportunity to get to know new people.” Accordingly, you need to be a communicative person for this job. One particular highlight is traveling to university fairs: “We want share information about the city and the university, and of course do a bit of advertising for the university too,” he explains.
Whether at fairs, with the service hotline, or at the service point in the Fritz Foerster Building – The main mission is always to support applicants or students. “Best case scenario, I can help the person myself,” explains Florian Dietzsch, adding, “The key to success is to know where to find the most important information, and who the right contact person is.” He often forwards inquiries to the Admissions Office, International Office, or Examination Office.
What else is part and parcel of work at the SCS? What does a usual working day look like? And what are the most common questions that Florian and his colleagues are asked? Find out in the video (English subtitles available)!
In the video series "At work with...," the social media team of TU Dresden accompanies employees of TU Dresden or its partner institutions for the day. The videos provide insight into the diverse areas of work and responsibilities at TU Dresden. We want to show the people behind everything that makes us special and who do their jobs with passion and dedication! You can find more videos on our YouTube channels “TU Dresden entdecken” (“Discover TU Dresden”) and “TU Dresden probieren” (“Try TU Dresden”)
