How Germany can overcome its weak economic growth: Presentation and discussion with economic expert Veronika Grimm and Minister President Michael Kretschmer

Professor Veronika Grimm
2023 was a challenge for the German economy. From the energy crisis to weak economic growth – this is how the German Council of Economic Experts (SVR) sums it up in its annual report. The data published in the report on economic trends and forecasts show that economic recovery following the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine is still a long way off. Although consumer spending is rising slightly, the negative trend in investments is slowing down growth. For 2024, the SVR forecasts a slight recovery with a growth rate of 0.7%.
Economist Veronika Grimm, Chair of Economic Theory at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and a member of the SVR since 2020, will present the annual report "Overcoming weak growth – Investing in the future" (2023/24) at TU Dresden on January 12 and discuss the economic policy recommendations.

Minister President Michael Kretschmer
In the subsequent panel discussion with Saxony's Minister President, Michael Kretschmer, she will discuss issues relating to economic and energy policy, migration policy, poverty reduction and cutting red tape, as well as increasing innovation through research funding and strengthening universities.
The event will be moderated by Prof. Christian Leßmann, Chair of Economics esp International Economics at TU Dresden.
Registration is required to attend the event.
