How the new logo was created
During the branding process, it became clear that TU Dresden's previous, tech-driven logo no longer adequately reflected today's diversity and openness in research and teaching. The closed form and the pronounced technology symbolism are in visual contrast to our brand values – collaborative, transformative, inventive, and engaged.
The new logo picks up on central design elements of the old design, but opens up the previously closed form in favor of a modern visual language. The two graphic elements symbolize the joint cooperation and thus focus on the central brand value “collaborative.” Instead of highlighting individual departments, the new logo emphasizes joint research, teaching and work. The open form enables all disciplines to identify with the brand.
With the new logo, the university is emphasizing its willingness to change and its forward-looking nature. In addition, the simplified visual element means that it is easier to see from a distance and it remains clearly recognizable even in small sizes – an important advantage for TUD Dresden's cross-media communication, which benefits all target groups.
