Together through the postdoc phase: New Charlotte Bühler cycle launched
The new cycle of the Charlotte Bühler Program at TU Dresden (TUD) started with the ceremonial kick-off event on April 24, 2025. The program is aimed at female postdoctoral researchers at TUD and all DRESDEN-concept institutions. It accompanies the female scientists for one year with interdisciplinary offers and intensive networking through the challenging postdoc phase on the way to a professorship.
The event was opened by Katrin Saure, project coordinator of the program, who warmly welcomed the participants. She gave an overview of the goals of the program and an insight into the career of Charlotte Bühler, who was the first woman to habilitate at the TUD (then TH Dresden) in 1920 and subsequently became the first woman in Saxony to receive a teaching qualification.
This was followed by a greeting from Professor Roswitha Böhm, Vice-Rector University Culture at TUD, who emphasized that excellent research is only possible in an inclusive, diverse environment. In addition, with a view to the TUD, but also on the basis of her own career path, she made it clear how underrepresented women still are at postdoc level and even more so at professor level. Against this backdrop, she emphasized the importance of target group-specific funding formats such as the Charlotte Bühler Programme.
Professor Claudia Felser, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, also emphasized the importance of individual, personal support. Her very vivid keynote speech focused on her career path and illustrated the relevance of mentoring and networking in a scientific career to the enthusiastic audience.
Afterwards, a networking session offered all participants the opportunity to network with each other, make initial contacts and exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. The successful kick-off marked the beginning of an intensive program year full of impulses, personal development and professional growth.
