2019 Gender-Inclusive Teaching Awards
2019 Gender-Inclusive Teaching Awards winners
TU Dresden presented an award for gender-inclusive teaching for the first time in 2019. The Gender-Inclusive Teaching Award aims to honor exemplary teaching staff who make space for topics of gender in their classes, thus raising awareness of gender equality amongst their students, which is essential to a contemporary and successful university.
All TU Dresden students and employees were invited to submit nominations. Eight entries were received, from which a selection jury under the leadership of Professor Krauthäuser, Vice-Rector for Academic and International Affairs, subsequently selected this year’s winner. The awards ceremony took place on October 11, 2019, during the general meeting of the Association of Friends and Sponsors of TU Dresden.
The prize money amounted to EUR 2,500, financed by the Women Professors Program II of the Federal Government and the States (Länder).
Mr. Felix Weber was presented the award for his work with teacher training students, encouraging them to engage with the topic of gender diversity and reflect on their own actions when interacting with members of the LGBT community. Mr. Weber is involved in the MTC (Mentoring-Tutoring-Coaching) and OFP (Research and Practice Orientation Platform) projects in the area of Coaching and Mentoring at the Faculty of Education and the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB). Felix Weber plans to use the prize money to continue and expand on the course in November and December 2019. Thanks to the funding, it is now possible to open the course to other students and reach a larger target group. The workshop equipment will be improved to make this possible.
The award is scheduled to be continued in 2020.
Staff Unit Diversity Management extends its congratulations to the winner and would like to thank everyone who submitted nominations.
