Ideas competition Family-friendly University TU Dresden
The TU Dresden ideas competition Family-friendly University was held for the first time in 2014 for convincing project ideas regarding the improvement of family-friendly study and/or work conditions at TUD. In the framework of the ideas competition, students and employees could be successfully implemented in the shaping of their family-friendly university. Teams or individual students and employees had the opportunity to submit their ideas on this topic in a two-step process and, afterwards, implement them autonomously.
An independent jury selected two winners from a total of six applications submitted.
1st place: Setting up a parent child work space at the Faculty of Business and Economics, submitted by Ms Ulrike Schmidt, chairwoman of the graduate students' association nexus e.V. in conjunction with the Faculty of Business and Economics
The set-up of a "WiWi" children's room at the Faculty of Business and Economics was particularly appreciated by the jury as it enables students and employed parents of the faculty to bring their children to the workplace in case of care shortages. Furthermore, it was rated positively that the implementation of this project idea for the visualisation of families at the faculty and at TU Dresden leads and therefore contributes to raising awareness among members of the faculty when it comes to concerns of compatibility of family and job/studies.
2nd place: Building a ping-pong table on the campus of TU Dresden, submitted by Mr Andreas Spranger, Student Council TU Dresden, division Higher education policy
It was positively highlighted that with the set-up of a ping-pong table on the campus of TU Dresden, a project idea submitted by the Student Council, a central meeting place for families and for more diverse target groups in the sense of diversity is created. Not only the members of a specific structural unit, but all university members will benefit from the implementation of the project idea.
For the implementation of the submitted project ideas, a total prize money of EUR 6.000 is provided in the framework of the ideas competition - financed by funds of the Programme for Women Professors of the federal and state governments.
The ceremonial award of the winners took place during the inauguration of the already realised first winner of the project idea "establishment of WiWi children's room at the Faculty of Business and Economics" on 21 January 2015 in the ballroom of the Hülsse building.
