A meeting with TUD alumni was on the agenda of Saxony's Minister-President Michael Kretschmer's delegation trip to New York City, which also included TUD Prof.in Ursula Staudinger, and the Head of the International Office, Peter Rosenbaum. They welcomed 40 alumni participants at the restaurant of the German Consulate General. The Minister-President shared greetings from home, and then the group talked about future relations with their university.

The Rector commented, "The Alumni Breakfast gave both Minister-President Kretschmer and us TUD representatives the opportunity to meet a very impressive group of alumni who are eager to get involved with TUD in North America. They consistently expressed their great commitment to the university."

Peter Rosenbaum added, "The alumni briefly introduced themselves and their Dresden connection - there was even a graduate, Patrick Buah, who was still at TUD during GDR times. I am thrilled by the careers of our TUD alumni and the extremely great willingness to act not only as contacts, but also as mentors for our TUD students. In other words, exactly what you would hope for from active alumni. In addition, we discussed the idea of starting a NY Metropolitan Chapter for TUD alumni."

One alumni attendee, Axel Frotscher, currently a Research Programming Analyst at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, said, "It was great to meet other alumni from my university in the Tri-State area. How nice to see alumni relations continue to pick up steam here."

The meeting is also thanks to the EXU International Alumni Relations Coordinator, Jeremiah Peterson.  He said, “in addition to the strong contacts we already have with TUD alumni in our network, we were happy to use this event to renew contact with many more alumni in the NYC region.  Attendees included CEOs and senior executives from companies as diverse as KPMG, Chobani, Prada, L’Oreal, and Amazon Web Services – as well as individuals conducting cutting-edge research and development at organizations such as Columbia University Medical Center and Applied Materials.  We can be proud that these current alumni leaders were shaped by TU Dresden.”

A new NYC network on LinkedIn aims to perpetuate these contacts as well.
