Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony – Share your ideas and events now
Appreciating Jewish culture and history as an integral component of life in Saxony is the objective of the Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony, which the Free State of Saxony is celebrating in 2026 under the auspices of the SMWK. Entitled Tacheles, numerous events throughout Saxony will shed light on Jewish history and as well as Jewish life in the Free State from different perspectives.
The "Year of Jewish Culture" is based on a broad concept of culture, which, in addition to art and culture, also includes history and commemorative culture as well as educational formats and opportunities for personal encounters. The theme year presents Saxony's rich and diverse Jewish history and culture, but also highlights gaps and irretrievable losses. It aims to promote the dialogue between the Jewish community and the majority society in Saxony and at the same time increase knowledge and understanding of Jewish life, culture, tradition and religion.
Saxony's universities are explicitly invited to help shape the program of the theme year. Supporting the call, TUD's contribution to the project includes an accompanying course for student teachers called "Jewish Everyday Life in Germany. Between Civil Rights, Antisemitism and #neveragain", a video series featuring Jewish-Christian dialogue and Yiddish language classes.
Please submit any additional ideas you might have to Unit 9.2 University and Society. Possible formats include courses, lectures, discussion formats, exhibitions, research projects, and excursions.
