TACHELES 2026: Saxony-wide theme year highlights Jewish life

Coinciding with the start of the Jewish festival of lights, Hanukkah, the “Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony” was officially kicked off on December 14, 2025. The goal of this theme year is to highlight Jewish life in all its historical depth, cultural diversity, and contemporary social relevance. Nearly 400 events throughout Saxony are on the program – from exhibitions, lectures, readings and workshops to concerts and an intercultural moped service. Under the title “Tacheles,” emphasis is placed on the rich Jewish history of the Free State on the one hand, but also on the vibrant Jewish culture of the present on the other.
TUD is also participating in the “Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony” with a number of formats – such as a accompanying course on “Jewish Everyday Life in Germany,” Yiddish courses, and a reading with lyric poet Yevgeniy Breyger. Engaged university members are invited to enrich the program with their own contributions.
