International Weeks against RacismDigital lunchtalk on institutionalised anti-Asian racism
Asian people have had a hard time in German society, and not just since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Stereotypes and traditional reservations lead to rejection, insults and even attacks. Numerous (murder) attacks in Germany can be linked to anti-Asian racism. Hoyerswerda in September 1991 or Rostock-Lichtenhagen in August 1992 are among the xenophobic attacks that are trivialised institutionally and in the media as riots or even protests. The clearly racist core is thus blurred. In the Digital Lunchtalk, Dr Kien Nghi Ha will talk about the extent to which institutionalised anti-Asian racism is reflected in this context and how it can still be recognised today. After the 30-minute talk, there will be room for questions and discussion.
