Excellence

The TUD has been one of the eleven German Universities of Excellence since 2012 and is one of Germany's top-performing research institutions. This success is based not only on excellent research, but also on interdisciplinary cooperation and a clear strategy for the future. TUD Dresden University of Technology

TUD Dresden University of Technology is one of the largest Universities of Technology in Germany and is among the leading and most dynamic universities in the country. With 17 Faculties across five Schools, it offers a widespread range of 119 degree programs and covers a broad spectrum of research. Its focuses on Life Sciences, Quantum Materials, Microelectronics, Tactile Internet, Materials Science, Data-Intensive and Digital Sciences, Circular Economy and Societal Change are considered exemplary across Europe.

Today, 8,500 employees work at TUD and about 29,000 students are enrolled. Internationally, TUD has earned an excellent reputation. About 20 % of its students come from abroad.

TUD has been one of the eleven German Universities of Excellence since 2012 and was able to defend this title in 2019 with its application "TUD 2028 - Synergy and beyond". In May 2025, five out of six submitted research projects were selected as Clusters of Excellence. The three existing CeTI, ct.qmat (in future ctd.qmat) and PoL will continue to receive funding from 2026 and two new ones will be added: CARE and REC2.

Technology transfer

As the university with the most patents in Germany, the TUD combines scientific excellence with an entrepreneurial spirit. Ideas become innovations here, research results become market-ready solutions - supported by a strong network of science, business and society. With the TUD Excellence Center for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship (TUD|excite), the university bundles its innovation activities in order to continue the successful technology transfer and to continue writing the history of pioneering start-ups.
Digitaliza­tion & AI

The TUD is consistently driving digitalization in research, teaching and administration. With the multidisciplinary Science and Resource Centre for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS), it is pursuing a unique approach that combines technical, systemic and social perspectives on digitalization. This positions TUD as one of the leading institutions in the field of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
Interna­tional cooperation

Crossing borders, sharing knowledge, shaping the future - TU Dresden lives international cooperation in research, teaching and innovation. Together with its partners worldwide, it strengthens scientific excellence and creates space for new ideas. The transCampus partnerships and the Saxon Science Liaison Offices in particular stand for this lively exchange, which creates global networks and enables new collaborations.
