Preamble Professor Catalog

The University Archive records all professors of the TU Dresden from the past and present in the digital professor database. The basis for this is the professors' catalog created and intensively edited in 1965 by Arthur Weichold (editor-in-chief of the Scientific Journal of the TU Dresden for many years), which was continued by the University Archives from 1977. In 2003, on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the university, a volume with biographies of the professors appointed until 2002 was published: "Die Professoren der TU Dresden 1828-2003", edited by Dorit Petschel, Böhlau Verlag Köln, 1089 p. (Volume 3 of the book series "175 Jahre TU Dresden", edited on behalf of the Gesellschaft von Freunden und Förderern der TU Dresden e. V. by Reiner Pommerin.

Likewise, all professors of the Medical Faculty and its predecessor institutions are recorded in the digital professor database: "Die Professoren der Medizinischen Fakultät Carl Gustav Carus Dresden und ihrer Vorgängereinrichtungen 1814-2013", edited by Caris-Petra Heidel and Marina Lienert, Dresden 2013.

In total, more than 2700 records on professors from a period of more than two centuries have been recorded with name, field of appointment, date of appointment, date of retirement and basic information on the scientific career. This database is updated to the best of our knowledge. We would be very grateful for any information on errors or further biographical details.  We hope that with the Professor Database we are providing the interested public with a contemporary medium.  The database of professors can be searched here.
