SaxFDM – Establishing cooperative research data management support services for Saxony
Data are the fundamental basis of research. A systematic management of research data (RDM) is an integral part of overall research management. FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) data make research open and transparent and are also a prerequisite for the reuse of research results. A thorough RDM makes the research process more efficient and is indispensable in data-driven research.
SaxFDM is an initiative and network of Saxon higher education and research institutions as well as organisations from the GLAM sector with currently 31 partners. It was founded in 2019 as a grassroots initiative and has since been engaged in fostering networking and cooperation as well as coordinating activities related to research data management in the Free State of Saxony.
Since November 2021, the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism is funding the project “SaxFDM – Establishing cooperative research data management support services for Saxony”. Building on the outputs of previous SaxFDM activities, the project aims to further develop and consolidate the services and the network.
The project is being handled by a three-member team of experts (competence team), which started work its in March 2022. It cooperates strongly with the SaxFDM spokespersons and the working groups. The focus of the work is:
-
Establishment of a Saxony-wide FDM consulting and training offer
-
Further development of the common knowledge base
-
Distribution of the portfolio of technical FDM services provided by SaxFDM partners throughout Saxony
-
Strategic anchoring of the FDM to the partner institutions
-
Conception of a sustainable business model
