D2C2 explores possible use of XR glasses to enhance accessibility for visually impaired students
Student life is undoubtedly an exciting and enriching time. During your time at the university, you have the opportunity to experience new things, to develop personally and, of course, to acquire knowledge and skills. But in addition to all the positive aspects, there are also obstacles and difficulties that most students have to face . Especially at the beginning of your studies, it can be difficult to find your way around campus and to find the buidlings and classrooms your are looking for. The same applies to using new learning platforms such as OPAL. But what is it actually like for students with visual impairments to study at a university? What additional challenges and inaccessibilities do they have to cope with and how can these be addressed?
Tara Scheuermann, student assistant at ZiLL, actively addresses these questions as part of her work for the joint project D2C2. Doing so, she came across XR glasses for visually impaired users. Learn more about her work on the blog of Hochschuldidaktik Sachsen.
