TUD Student Wins Poster Prize at FLATLANDS “Beyond Graphene” Conference
Tom Barnowsky, a physics M.Sc. student at TU Dresden, has won a poster prize funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry at the FLATLANDS: Beyond Graphene 2024
conference in Wroclaw, Poland – a yearly event that gathers experts from around the
world to discuss advancements in two-dimensional (2D) materials research.
Supported through TU Dresden’s FOSTER “Student Academic Travel Award” (STATA), he presented the research findings of an international collaboration lead by the DRESDEN-concept group “AutoMaT” of Dr. Rico Friedrich on “Magnetic State Control of Non-van der
Waals 2D Materials by Hydrogenation” (see also Magnetic with a Pinch of Hydrogen).
At the poster session of the conference, he shared these findings among a group of international students and professional scientists. His project highlighted new insights of the benefits of surface passivation on the new class of non-van der Waals 2D materials that could have applications in nanotechnology and spintronics, contributing to the evolving landscape of materials research.
The FLATLANDS conference serves as a platform to connect with leading scientists, to spark academic exchange and to stimulate collaboration around the future of 2D materials.
