Education4Change – Exchange and inspiration for sustainable higher education

Future-oriented higher education goes beyond the mere transfer of knowledge: it empowers students to think critically, act strategically, anticipate future developments, and solve complex problems in an increasingly dynamic world shaped by global crises. This is precisely where Higher Education for Sustainable Development (HESD) comes in—a teaching and learning approach that integrates knowledge, values, and problem-solving skills to foster sustainable and responsible action.

  • How can key competencies such as critical and anticipatory thinking be systematically developed within higher education courses?
  • Which didactic approaches are suitable for sustainably strengthening students’ ability to implement solutions and solve problems?
  • And to what extent can methods from Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) help to effectively embed these competencies in higher education teaching?

These and other questions are addressed in our online exchange format, which is open to lecturers from various universities and disciplines across Saxony. In regular digital meetings, current topics, challenges, and good practice examples from the ESD context at Saxon universities are explored. Each session begins with a roughly 30-minute expert input from lecturers or specialists who share their practical experiences. This is followed by an open discussion of approximately 15 minutes or longer, providing space for questions, exchange, and collegial networking.

We meet on various dates throughout the semester from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in a permanently accessible Zoom room: https://tu-dresden.zoom-x.de/j/65151865540?pwd=KqAs8VByF1AY5hV61BHHqVKQUvQKdB.1
