1973 - 1980 degree course in gardening and landscaping at Munich and Hanover universities
1980 joins firms of landscape architects in Berlin and Hanover
1982  researcher at Institute for Landscape Planning at Stuttgart University and for Institute of Public Gardens and Garden Architecture at Hanover University
1985 joins Department of Public Greens and Gardens of Cologne City Council, to eventually become its Director
since 1993 Professor of Landscape Architecture/Public Greens and Gardens at Institute of Landscape Architecture, Technische Universität Dresden (TUD)
1997 - 2000 Dean Faculty of Architecture
2000 - 2003 Vice-Rector for Research
since 2003  Rector of TU Dresden
