Think Tank - More practice in your studies
On 16 January 2018, more than fifty lecturers, students and practice partners in the "Think Tank" discussed how the theory-practice transfer in the STEM study courses at TU Dresden could be concretely designed or optimised.
The discussion rounds were kicked off with three keynote lectures, which opened up very different perspectives on "employability" and the combination of theory and practice in studies and teaching.
Speakers:
- Prof. Ralph Stelzer, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering
- Peter Kühl, Head of the specialist departments of BASF Schwarzheide GmbH
- Andreas Eimer, Head of Career Service, University of Münster
In four different "Think Tanks“, not only existing offers for the stabilisation of the practice relevance were collected, but also new ideas for research and practice-orientated formats were developed.
- THINK TANK 1: Theory vs. Practice
- THINK TANK 2: Industrial Practice
- THINK TANK 3: Research Practice
- THINK TANK 4: Involvement of Practice Partners
Overall, the "Think Tank" demonstrated that practical experience and theoretical knowledge need and complement each other. Students should therefore be taught orientation knowledge about possible fields of activity after their studies at an early stage, i.e. answers to the question as to how they can later implement their theoretical knowledge and academic skills.
