The Institute at a glance

The Institute of Building Construction under the leadership of Prof. Dr. ir. Christian Louter (previously Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Weller) employs 24 associates.
The Institute offers courses on subject of Building Construction in connection with new and excisting buildings as a basement of the curriculum of Civil Engineering.
Furthe the Istitute provides a wide of choice of lectures concerning the subjects building envelopes, structual glass, glass facades, building design, sustainability, green building, fire protection and demage to buildings. In context of the ACCESS course the Institute provides english speaking courses for structual glass.
A strong link of studies, research and practice is strived by the Institute. The attitude can also be found in student project and graduation work.

Research activities are intensively focussed on issues in glass construction and facade engineering. They devide three research groups:

- Dimension and Construction
- Sustainability and Energy Efficency
- Adhesive Bonding and Laminates

The employees are supported by the Friedrich-Siemens-Laboratory where comprehensive testings regarding building components, glassconstrucions and facades can be conducted. The gluing laboratory provides special equipment for gluing, proofing and analysing. The Friedrich-Siemens-Laboratory is a certification office.

The Institute is represented on national and international committees. In connection with their research activities the Institute organises national and international conferences and seminars which lead to worthy book publications.
