Project Description
The objective of the research is to develop a multi-functional, autonomous facade element that meets the requirements of a subtropical climate and can withstand its effects in major South-East Asian cities. The facade element consists of transparent slats that provide for natural ventilation of the building and can be filled with various functional glazing. An intelligent, sensor-controlled opening mechanism for these slats allows for energy-efficient interior climate control, while maintaining a high level of interior air quality and creating a comfortable atmosphere in buildings in sub-tropical climates. The photovoltaic modules and energy storage units integrated into the system provide the energy required to control and open the slats, thereby allowing for an autonomous, closed system that is independent of the building’s utility systems.
In addition to developing the structural design of the system and the design of the photovoltaic module with its energy storage units, long-term field tests must be conducted as part of the research in order to investigate the durability and resilience of the system under real world weather conditions.
