Project description
The project “Sustainable learning by collaborative building” supports students in the field of civil engineering during the initial phase of their studies, helping them cope with specific study materials as well as organizing their studies. Students facing a second examination or at risk of dropping out are grouped into small teams, each accompanied by a student mentor (peer approach). Within the group, issues that could lead to dropping out are discussed, along with addressing academic difficulties. Guided by student mentors, the student work in small teams on practical construction tasks with a focus on sustainability in construction.
The central aspects of the project are the topics of “construction sustainability” and “sustainable learning”. Students acquire a wide range of competences, develop personal strength, and gain sensitivity and a willingness to engage in sustainable building practices. This innovative approach enhances academic success. In terms of both content and didactic methodology, the insights and results of the project and the peer approach are integrated into regular teaching – even beyond the specific Building Construction module.
