Project Description
As the façades of buildings are getting more transparent, the requirements for energy efficiency and thermal insulation are increasing. In order to meet these requirements, glass is often provided with coatings, which only have a static functionality and therefore do not represent an optimum for variable impacts such as solar radiation. For this reason, intelligent functional glazing, which adapts its optical properties to current conditions, is increasingly being used. In this way, it is possible to significantly reduce the total energy consumption of buildings over the year. Of particular interest are passively switchable thermochromic and photochromic glazings, as they do not require a power supply compared to actively switchable electrochromic glazings. Passively switchable glazings rather react to the temperature or irradiation at glass level and adjust the energy transmission accordingly.
The aim of the research project is to develop a lamination process by which thermochromic and photochromic functional films are integrated into laminated glass. The focus here is especially on safe fracture behaviour, since numerous glass applications, in the façade and inside, require laminated safety glass. These requirements should be achieved also with photochromic and thermochromic functionalised glazing by the specific adjustment of the lamination parameters and selection of the functional film and interlayer. To investigate the adhesive bond and durability experimental tests will be performed. In addition, the radiometric properties are determined and an impact analysis is carried out.
