For research projects and dissertations, new testing devices are constantly being developed or old devices modified. The picture shows a converted triaxial cell, which is now used as a calibration chamber for a miniature CPT probe. Learn more

Sonderversuchsanlage: Rahmenscherversuch mit Normalkraftmessung

An example of device modifications is the direct shear device with lateral friction measurement. The picture shows the sketch of a direct shear device with shear force measurement (green arrow), which has been supplemented by 2 load cells (yellow arrows) recording the lateral friction. This allows a correction of the normal stresses and a more precise determination of the friction angle.

Modellversuchsanlage Durchströmungsversuch

In the soil mechanics laboratory, model tests are carried out, e.g. to check numerical models. Here a flow test through a dam with different water levels is shown. The flow tubes (the direction of flow) of the water can be seen very well.

Bildauswertung mit Hilfe der DIC-Methode

One possibility to investigate displacements in the ground is to use a transparent test box. If photos are taken of the ground during exposure, the DIC (Digital Image Correlation) method can be used to detect the smallest shifts. The picture shows a model test in which the horizontal displacements due to a wall displacement are shown.

Besides the listed devices for standard testing in the laboratory also individual testing devices are developed. The devices are predominantly used for research purposes. Therefore, further equipment is available which is not catalogued here. For further information please contact us:
