X-ray diffractometry
XRD uses the interaction of X-rays with material samples (X-ray diffraction at the nano-structure of crystalline solids, generation of characteristic diffraction patterns) to determine their qualitative phase composition. Determination is possible for all crystalline materials, such as the most minerals and rocks. Investigations are carried out on crushed material (powders). The method allows the analysis of very small amounts of samples (< 10 mg, e.g. for the investigation of works of art). In the laboratory there are special experiences in the analysis of binders (mortars, plasters) and damaging salts that are harmful for construction.
