Kickoff for the last cohort of GRK2250
With the kick-off meeting held by Prof. Mechtcherine last May 4th, the third and last cohort of PhD students has started its activities in the framework of the GRK2250. Young and motivated researchers coming from different parts of the world joined Dresden to start this important stage of advanced academic training. All the PhD candidates will officially start over this year. The forthcoming Summer School 2023, to be held at the CTU Prague in June, will gather both cohorts together to trigger an intense knowledge exchange, with the valuable presence of a panel of international experts. This meeting will provide the initial boost to their path.
In these two months, the group is attending an intensive series of lectures and workshops mainly delivered by the Principal Investigators of the Research Training Group, aimed at introducing the main concepts regarding impact resistance of materials and structures, ranging from textile to fibres engineering, composite materials, structural engineering concepts, photogrammetry, computational methods and artificial intelligence approaches.
A series of practical workshops is also scheduled to get the students acquainted with some important aspects of scientific research, like management and statistical elaboration of data, good scientific practice, systematic review organisation, and bibliography management, with a basic training on LaTeX environment. Some of the workshops are organised in close collaboration with the library (SLUB) and the Graduate academy of the TUD.
Prof. Mechtcherine with all the Principal Investigators wish all the best to the new colleagues for the upcoming three years.
