Basic studies
The following modules are offered in the basic studies:
BIW 1-08a - Fundamentals of building materials as well as organic and metallic building materials
The students have a scientifically founded understanding of the fundamentals of building materials as well as the structure, properties and applications of building materials. They have knowledge of the composition, production and specific material behaviour of relevant organic and metallic building materials and know how to determine and describe their characteristic properties. The students are able to assess the behaviour of building materials under different external influences based on the knowledge of the relevant mechanisms of action. They have knowledge of damage mechanisms in building materials and can derive measures to ensure or improve durability. OPAL-Kurs
BIW1-08b - Inorganic non-metallic building materials
Students have a scientifically based understanding of the structure, properties and applications of inorganic, non-metallic building materials and composite building materials and are able to classify them accordingly and use them for their intended purpose. They have knowledge of the composition, production and the resulting specific behaviour of these materials as well as the procedures for determining and describing characteristic building material properties. They know the relevant damage mechanisms of building materials and are able to derive measures to ensure or improve the durability of inorganic non-metallic building materials. OPAL-Kurs
