Past events
Here you will find an overview of past industry seminars on the subject of concrete 3D printing.
The Institutes of Construction Management and Construction Materials as well as the Chair of Construction Machinery at TU Dresden invite you to the sixth edition of the Industry Seminar 3D Concrete Printing. We look forward to welcoming you on November 5, 2024 in the Dülfersaal of the TUD Dresden University of Technology - this year again in presence, from 9:00 to 17:30. As one of the leading universities in the field of concrete 3D printing, we would like to present the latest developments, technologies and applications in this emerging industry. Our Advisors (planners, material and equipment manufacturers, construction companies) from the industry will provide insights into their current developments in the field of concrete 3D printing, report on recent projects and discuss future trends.
The event offers a unique opportunity to meet new players in the industry, get in personal contact with experts and visit exhibits and laboratories as part of a trade exhibition.
The program
Detailed information can be found here.
With concrete 3D printing, structures are produced with unprecedented freedom of form by stacking concrete layers on top of each other. Thanks to a digital process chain from planning as a 3D model to automated concrete placement, many work steps such as formwork construction can be eliminated and costs saved.
But there are still a number of unanswered questions: from the development and quality assurance of specialized concretes to the design of printing robots and the adaptation of construction site and logistics processes. Solution strategies will be discussed at the German Industry Seminar on Concrete 3D Printing.
The Chair of Construction Machinery and the Institutes of Construction Materials and Construction Operations of TU Dresden invite you to the fourth edition of the conference. On Nov. 23, 2023, Professors Mechtcherine, Otto and Will will present current research results from their chairs and moderate cutting-edge presentations from industry. The 5th German Industry Seminar will take place in online format via Zoom and provide opportunities for professional exchange.

4th German Industry Seminar on Concrete 3D Printing
With concrete 3D printing, structures can be produced with unprecedented freedom of form by stacking layers of concrete on top of each other. Thanks to a digital process chain from planning as a 3D model to the automated placement of concrete, many work steps such as formwork construction can be eliminated and costs saved.
However, there are still a number of unanswered questions: from the development and quality assurance of specialized concretes to the design of printing robots and the adaptation of construction site and logistics processes. A dozen short presentations from science, but above all from industry, will provide information on the latest findings.
The Chair of Construction Machinery and the Institutes of Construction Materials and Construction Management at TU Dresden invite you to the fourth edition of the conference. On 24.11.2022 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Professors Mechtcherine, Otto and Will will present current research results from their chairs and moderate cutting-edge presentations from industry. The 4th German Industry Seminar will take place online via Zoom and offer opportunities for professional exchange.

We have once again prepared a varied program of presentations for you this year. The program is subject to change.
3rd Industry Seminar - Concrete 3D printing and other digital concrete construction methods

Prof. Otto, Prof. Mechtcherine und Prof. Will freuen sich über ein erfolgreiches Industrieseminar.
The 3rd German Industry Seminar on "Concrete 3D printing and other digital concrete construction methods" was once again a complete success in 2021. Like last year, the event was held as a digital web meeting. This was partly due to the coronavirus pandemic and partly due to the potential of a digital conference. Without the additional journey to Dresden, the symposium reached a wider audience. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mechtcherine(Institute of Construction Materials), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Wirt.-Ing. Otto(Institute of Construction Management) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Will(Endowed Chair of Construction Materials) (photo from left to right) welcomed more than 160 participants from nine countries on 3 November 2021.
Greetings from Mr. Norbert Schröter, Managing Director of Deutsche Bauchemie and President of the European Concrete Platform, and Mr. Joachim Schmid, Managing Director of the VDMA Construction Machinery and Building Material Plants Association, set the mood for ten specialist presentations on current industry and research activities (to the program). These were divided into three sessions and started with a presentation by Prof. Mechtcherine, who gave an overview of the integration of reinforcement in the printing process.
The second block of topics was moderated by Prof. Will. He began by presenting the automation options for reinforcement integration and the current state of machine technology. Advisors from France and Italy then presented practical applications of concrete 3D printers and the possible uses of alternative printing materials.
The third block, which was led by Prof. Otto, shed light on the construction-related boundary conditions of concrete 3D printing. In addition to the presentation of time approaches for the production of printed reinforced concrete, the participants were given first impressions of the approval process and various approaches for the static verification of printed building structures.
This year's event shows how dynamic the development of concrete 3D printing has been so far and how high the untapped potential is. The highest number of participants to date and the lively discussions following the presentations also testify to the high level of interest in digital construction methods. The organizers are therefore already looking forward to the next industry seminar, which will take place on 24.11.2022. The conference presentations can be found on our YouTube channel.

Following the great success of the 1st German Industrial Seminar in 2019, the Institute of Construction Materials, the Endowed Chair for Construction Machinery and the Institute of Construction Management at the TUD Dresden University of Technology invite you to the 2nd German Industrial Seminar on Concrete 3D Printing and Other Digital Concrete Construction Processes on October 28, 2020. The rapid development and potential of the underlying technologies require a regular exchange between the stakeholders involved.
Speakers from industry and science will provide an up-to-date overview of the state of the art, the relevant development trends, but also the challenges in dealing with new manufacturing processes in digital concrete construction. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the seminar will take place as an online event this year. The specially developed concept of the seminar nevertheless promises lively discussions and a live atmosphere.
Objectives
The construction industry is facing major challenges: Automation, increases in productivity, process quality, resource efficiency and improved working conditions are becoming increasingly important for securing the competitiveness of the entire industry. The consequences of the shortage of skilled workers are already clearly noticeable and require practicable perspectives. The digitalization and automation of relevant production processes represent a promising solution. Concrete 3D printing processes are particularly suitable for digital construction on the building site and in prefabrication. Together with digital planning, these could pave the way for Construction 4.0.
Participants
The event is aimed at developers, users and decision-makers from the fields of automation and digitalization of operational construction processes, solid construction, building materials technology and mechanical engineering as well as all those interested in innovation in the construction industry.
On November 8, 2019, the 1st German Industry Seminar CONCRETE 3D PRINTING AND OTHER DIGITAL CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION PROCESSES took place in the Dülfersaal (1st floor, Mommsenstraße 13, 01169 Dresden). The seminar was intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the most important developments in the field of digital concrete construction methods, with a critical, unbiased and conclusive examination of these.
