Short introduction

The Institute of Concrete Structures (Institut für Massivbau, IMB) with its more than 60 staff members consists of two professorships and a Laboratory – the Otto Mohr Laboratory.

  • At our institute, research is carried out by five research teams doing research in various projects. Currently, our main research focus is on investigation and implementation of textile reinforced concrete resp. carbon reinforced concrete. Another important topic is the study of material and component behaviour due to high load velocity. More information about our ongoing research you can find here.
  • About 400 students of Diploma, Bachelor or Master programmes are studying at the Institute. Lectures are conducted in about 20 module .
  • At the Otto Mohr Laboratoy (in short: OML), we are able to characterize various building materials. Its extensive portfolio includes various machines for standard testing as well as possibilities to determine the load capacity on large-scale components and constructions, e.g. up to bridge beams. Sampling or existing constructions. There are special test set-ups like Split-Hopkinson Pressure Bars, a drop tower, a multi-axial testing machine and a façade test rig for special tasks, combinable with various measurement equipment. Furthermore, sampling and load-bearing tests can be carried out on existing building structures. .
  • The insitute is involved in several collaborative research projects, including e.g. the Priority Programme 1542 (Schwerpunktprogramm SPP 1542), funded by the German Research Association DFG, and the project , funded within the Federal Initiative ‘Zwanzig20 – partnership for innovation’. Being part of an extensive network of more than one hundred national and international partners of science and practice is a real benefit for us and our students as well .
