Contents and qualification goals:
Contents of the module are analysis and recalculation as well as repair and strengthening of existing solid structures.
After completion of the module, students will be familiar with the methods of structural diagnosis using computational and experimental methods. They are able to analyze existing solid structures with regard to their condition and load-bearing behavior and to plan and calculate the necessary strengthening measures. Reinforcement with the aid of textile concrete is also a focal point.
After completing the module, students will have in-depth knowledge of modern concrete technology in the construction of existing and new buildings, particularly with regard to the production, properties and areas of application of high-performance concretes with and without fiber reinforcement.
Teaching methods:
4 SWS lecture and 2 SWS exercise
Prerequisites for participation:
The competences to be acquired in the modules of the basic studies (BIW1-01 to BIW1-11) and the basic subject studies (BIW2-02 to BIW2-06) are required.
Applicability:
In the undergraduate diploma program in civil engineering: Compulsory elective module in the main course of study, in particular for the specialization in structural engineering In the postgraduate course of study in civil engineering: Compulsory elective module, in particular for the specialization in structural engineering.
Requirements for the award of credit points:
Credit points are earned if the module examination is passed. The module examination consists of one written examination (240min).
Credit points and grades:
8 credit points can be acquired through the module.
Frequency of the module:
Module is offered every academic year, starting in the winter semester.
Workload:
The total workload is 240 hours.

Exercise
Strengthening of concrete structures
The exercises will mainly deal with practical examples. It is shown how the analysis and evaluation of existing structures is carried out and which basic possibilities of further procedures exist. In addition to the technical possibilities, questions of economic efficiency and sustainability will be considered.
