Further investigation of sediment transport and shoreline development at Lake Werbelin under the influence of wind-generated waves and currents
Brief description
As part of the recultivation of post-mining landscapes, various problems have to be solved in connection with the flooding of residual holes and the use of residual open-cast mining waters (TRG). Due to a variety of interacting influences, major geometric changes can be caused to the banks and shallow water areas of the TRG in the short and long term. A significant proportion of these changes result from the influence of wind-induced waves and currents on the embankments of the flooded open-cast mining lakes and the associated longitudinal and transverse transport of sediments on and in front of the shore areas. In the case of embankments that are particularly susceptible to erosion, this is expected to result in major shoreline displacements, which may endanger other areas and structures adjacent to the land.
