Sought-after graduates: TU Dresden is the only university in East Germany with several top positions in the current Wirtschaftswoche ranking
"The TU Dresden is a rare beacon of German higher education in the east of the republic", praises the Wirtschaftswoche in its latest issue. In particular, the graduates of business informatics, industrial engineering, electrical engineering and computer science from the TU Dresden are sought after by companies.
This is confirmed by the recently published ranking by Wirtschaftswoche, in which between February and March 2022, more than 500 HR managers from companies with ten to thousands of employees were asked at which universities and technical colleges (FH) they prefer to recruit their employees - and what they do pay attention.
Wirtschaftswoche has been collecting the figures for many years and found that the universities and technical colleges (FH) in the eastern German states are still overshadowed by their western competitors.
The TU Dresden alone achieves several top positions among the academic strongholds of Munich, Berlin, Bonn and Heidelberg. It is the fourth most popular university for business informatics and makes it to fifth place for business engineering. It ranks seventh in electrical engineering and eighth in computer science.
The reason for the very good rankings is, among other things, the numerous business settlements, especially in the field of microelectronics in Dresden, which also promote research and development - ideal working conditions for university graduates. A strong economy is therefore an important evaluation factor in the ranking. The study shows that if there are no large companies, HR managers take less notice of the graduates.
Of course, the TU Dresden uses this great advantage: "As a university, we are closely intertwined with the economy," says Rector Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger, who herself maintains a close exchange with the managing directors of large and small companies in the region. "The HR professionals know us." The status as the only university of excellence in eastern Germany offers the TU Dresden optimal conditions to further expand its strengths here and to score points with companies due to the excellent research strength and additional financial resources.
The Wirtschaftswoche ranking is published annually and has a unique selling point with its focus on career opportunities for young graduates from universities and technical colleges. This year the conclusion is: “How popular university graduates are on the job market does not only depend on the grades they can show or how quickly they collect their credit points. HR professionals in large and small companies now place much more value in recruiting on social commitment alongside their studies than in previous years.”
