Art and Soil: Annual conference of the DGB in Halle 2023
Soil Art - today: The Custody with the teaching and exhibition project "Down to Earth" in Halle on September 3, 2023 / Commission VIII session with an art exhibition
Opening up to the outside world and the associated greater influence on the socio-political space is an essential challenge for soil science. And here art makes it possible to make the complex topic of soil more visible in society. Given the magnitude and urgency of environmental problems, there is also a need to shake things up. In contrast to science, art can (and must) be emotional and occasionally provoke! Formats in research and teaching that include cultural, philosophical-ethical, and aesthetic values have so far tended to be the exception. In session K8.1 (Monday, Sept. 3, 10:30 a.m. – 11:50 a.m., Lecture Hall LaWi, E.02), the complex relationship between man and nature, in the particular case of soil, was examined from different perspectives. The focus is on a retrospective evaluation of the exhibition and teaching project Down to Earth - Art and Soil Science in Dialogue, which took place in Dresden last year. Organization and implementation were the responsibility of the TU Dresden Custody in cooperation with the local Institute for Soil Science and Site Studies, the Dresden Gallery Ursula Walter, and the German Soil Science Society. With contributions by Prof. Gerd Wessolek, Prof. Karl-Heinz-Feger, Alex Toland, Julius Pagés, and Gwendolin Kremer as well as an exhibition with works by Betty Beier, Ekkeland Götze, Veronika Pfaffinger, and Gerd Wessolek.
