The course program
The Bachelor program in forest sciences deals with the forest ecosystem in its entirety and with its diverse links to the environment, including human use. The course is interdisciplinary and teaches not only forestry expertise, natural and social science fundamentals, but also other key qualifications. The training is both research-oriented and practice-oriented. You will be included in scientific work in laboratories and test stations, but you can also establish direct practical relevance to your theoretical studies thanks to the proximity to the forest botanical garden and Tharandt forest as well as numerous excursions. The Bachelor program in forest sciences enables you to manage and protect forests sustainably.
Content and structure
The Bachelor program in forest sciences offers a diverse and interdisciplinary study program in which forestry expertise, natural and social science fundamentals, as well as other key qualifications are addressed. The course program is modular.
Because there are a total of eight compulsory elective modules in the degree program, there are excellent opportunities for individual design of the degree. A wide range of modules can be selected for the elective courses. There are also options for excursions and a 6-week internship. A bachelor thesis completes the program.
The standard period of study for the Bachelor program is six semesters.

Professional fields
The Bachelor program qualifies you for a further Master program as well as for work in application-related fields of activity. This "double function" is achieved through the previously mentioned extensive range of compulsory elective courses, which allows you to choose modules that are relevant to the respective training goal.
The Bachelor program in forest sciences who decide to practice their profession find their field of work as proven specialists, for example as managers of small and medium-sized companies, civil servants / employees in the higher forest service, employees of private forest companies or forest-owning municipalities, employees in research and experimental institutes, employees in nature and environmental protection and land care, employees in offices, administrations and (international) institutions, employees in forestry and tree expert offices and tree care companies, or employees in the timber industry, trade and sale. Graduates in politics, lobbying and development cooperation are also in demand.
