TRANS-URBAN-EU-CHINA
Transition towards Urban Sustainability through Socially Integrative Cities in the EU and China
Rapid urbanization processes are emerging in many European and Chinese cities. Against the background that the current developments in the cities pose a variety of challenges, various partners from Europe and China have been working on innovative ways of sustainable urban development since the beginning of 2018. In order to jointly develop long-term and promising strategies for the cities, a kick-off meeting lasting several days was held in Dresden in January 2018 for all institutions involved in the project.
The most important fields of work of the Technical University of Dresden within the project are the areas of "Land Use Planning" and "Land Management". The focus is on strengthening socially integrative urban renewal and promoting urban expansion areas. The Professorship of Land Management is primarily concerned with issues related to "Land Banking" and "Land Administration Systems". In this context, strengths and weaknesses in the existing practices of cities in Europe and China are elaborated, taking into account the respective legal bases for land use, and best practice examples are highlighted that can contribute to sustainable urban development and could be applied in European and Chinese cities in the future.
The project also looks at social aspects of urban development, such as how people identify with their cities. Another area is the development of urban development concepts for eco- and smart cities. In addition, the findings from the individual working groups will be discussed, tested and validated in so-called real laboratories (living labs).
