DANUBIUS-IP - start of a new project for the achievement of healthy River-Sea Systems
October 2022, the cooperation project Implementation Phase Project - DANUBIUS-IP will start.
DANUBIUS-RI seeks to provide scientific support for the achievement of healthy River-Sea Systems and advance their sustainable use by enabling state-of-the art, integrated R&I from river source to sea. This will facilitate excellent interdisciplinary science and provide the integrated knowledge to manage River-Sea Systems. Key challenges and research needs that must be addressed to achieve healthy River-Sea Systems under a changing climate include: ensuring sufficient flows of water and sediment, maintaining structural integrity and continuity, facilitating natural self-organisation processes over time, and promoting resilience to extreme events as well as an comprehensive monitoring. DANUBIUS-RI facilitates a source-to-sea perspective to understand the evolution and functioning of River-Sea Systems considering Climate Change and Extreme Events; Water and Sediment Quantity and Quality; Hydromorphology; Biodiversity; Ecosystem Functioning and Services; and multiple impacts on complex River- Sea Systems.
The project will be funded by European Union Horizon Europe Topic HORIZON-INFRA-2021-DEV-02-02
