YouTube video: Sorting Waste – How can heterogeneous waste be analysed and characterised (update 11/08/2021)
What does waste consist of? - As part of their studies, the students of the Master's programme "Waste Management and Contaminated Sites Treatment" of the TU Dresden sort residual waste and then analyse it in the laboratory to characterise its properties and assess its behaviour in waste treatment plants. The treatment of pollutants that have already entered the environment (contaminated sites) is also addressed. The composition of the waste alone already provides information about people's changing consumption behaviour and whether political measures to protect the environment and resources are working. If people sort their waste carefully at home, less plastic, paper and metals are found in the residual waste and the first step towards improved recycling is taken.
