ATM performance data – can we do better?
For big tech, data-mining is the foundation of most companies’ business models. But the tech sector is not the only industry that relies on understanding vast amounts of detailed, dynamic data. Air traffic management (ATM) operations and the performance scheme which underlies the European ATM system rely on the gathering and analysis of huge amounts of data. The problem is this data is often hard to understand, not always complete and difficult to use for communication purposes.
Therefore, InterFAB is launching a series of Expert Talks to provide a platform where experiences can be shared and views exchanged on the key issues which relate to data and performance in ATM.
You are invited to join our 1st InterFAB Expert Talk on
Tuesday, 2 March, 1300–1400 hrs UTC:
“The accuracy of forecasts”
with Prof Dr Hartmut Fricke from TU Dresden/Germany
leader of the Chair of Air Transport Technology and Logistics at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.
This will answer questions such as:
- How accurate and reliable are STATFOR traffic forecasts? How can they be assessed?
- How often do over- or under-estimates occur?
- What is the impact of an inaccurate traffic forecast on the system and its performance?
- What is the gap between actual operational data and published data?
- When reality does not to relate to forecasts what are the challenges and implications for air navigation service providers?
