Elektrofahrräder erlauben höhere Geschwindigkeiten mit vergleichsweise geringem körperlichem Aufwand, was sicherlich wesentlich zu ihrer zunehmenden Beliebtheit beiträgt. Allerdings könnten diese höheren Geschwindigkeiten auch zu Fehlbewertungen der Geschwindigkeiten durch andere Verkehrsteilnehmer führen, in deren Folge auch mit riskanterem Verhalten zu rechnen wäre (z. B. knappes Kreuzen der Spur des Elektrofahrradfahrers beim Linksabbiegen). Ziel der im Rahmen des Projektes durchgeführten Experimente war es, die von anderen Fahrzeugführern vorgenommenen Einschätzungen zur Geschwindigkeit (bzw. Zeitlücke) von (Elektro-) Fahrrädern sowie die sich daraus ergebende Lückenwahl genauer zu betrachten.
