MoveOn
Project MoveOn analyses GPS- Data for bicycle planning
After algorithms for cycling data processing were created in the MOVEBIS project together with the Chair of Computer Networks ( this resulted in the development of the cycling data platform RiDE) the follow-up project pursues the goal of continuously developing the data platform and providing access to more than 2,000 municipalities. To this end, data will be collected by means of a smartphone application as part of the STADTRADELN campaign in the years 2022-2024.
The Chair of Transport Ecology provides concepts and algorithms for the further development bicycle data processing, which are then tested and, if successful, are incorporated into the visualisation platform as new use cases. For example, the use cases of waiting times and origin-destination matrices are first evaluated and then technically revised.
New research goals are situated in the area of traffic volumes. On the one hand, a methodology for the comparison of different survey years in a study area is to be researched. It is important to include the campaign development (of STADTRADELN) both numerically (user numbers) and spatially (new participant municipalities in the surrounding area) in order to compensate for possible distortions. The result has the potential to fundamentally simplify the evaluation of cycling measures.
In addition, it is planned to extrapolate the data obtained in the three-week survey period to the average daily traffic volume (DTV) of a year. For this purpose, nationwide existing counting station data will be collected and enriched with secondary data in order to subsequently be used in the creation of several extrapolation models with different spatial resolutions.
In further project work packages, for example, drivers and obstacles for cycling campaigns in rural areas are to be investigated and specifically addressed, or data collection and processing are to be made significantly more efficient through the development of new compression formats.
Interdisciplinary Research for Cycling
In addition to the Chair of Transport Ecology at TU Dresden, the consortium consists of Klima-Bündnis e.V. and the TU spin-off flow.d GmbH. Klima-Bündnis e.V. brings expertise from twelve years of development work in the STADTRADELN campaign as well as several years of experience in supervising app development for the iOS and Android operating systems to the MoveOn project. flow.d GmbH is a spin-off of the Chair of Computer Networks at the TU Dresden, which was involved in the MOVEBIS project. It bundles experience in the field of software architecture and development and supports the software platform RiDE used in the project.
Funding
The Move:on project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) as part of the national cycling plan. The project executing agency is the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM).
