Interactive Science Lab – Experience Research, Shape Science
The Interactive Science Lab is an interdisciplinary team at the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS). It connects current research from CIDS and Dresden Technical University with historical objects from the university collections to develop interactive exhibits. Based on prototypes and demonstrators, the team creates exhibition modules that present science in a tangible, accessible, and dialogue-driven way.

How is digitalization changing our world?
The exhibition //DataSpaces. Experience Science. invites you to explore digital research first-hand. It combines current projects from the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS) and TU Dresden with interactive installations and historical computing objects. The result is a space where science is not only explained, but truly experienced – with all senses engaged.
From November 2024 to February 2025, the pilot exhibition was on display in the foyer of the Faculty of Computer Science (Andreas Pfitzmann Building). Since April 2025, it has been presented in a new format at the SLUB Makerspace, open to students, school groups, researchers, and curious visitors of all backgrounds. The exhibition continues to evolve – with a particular focus on inclusion and diversity:
-
Two exhibits are currently being redesigned to be accessible for visitors with visual impairments and learning difficulties.
-
A brand-new module is in development that highlights the achievements of women in computer science – past, present, and future.
What can you expect?
Digital transformation shapes our lives – it connects, simplifies, and accelerates. But it also raises critical questions: Who controls our data? What role does artificial intelligence play in society? How can science offer guidance?
The exhibition addresses these questions – critically, clearly, and tangibly. It offers insights into complex topics, encourages new perspectives on research and technology, and invites visitors to reflect and engage.
Exhibition concept at a glance:
-
Interactive & dialogue-oriented: Hands-on modules invite experimentation and exchange.
-
Modular & current: The content grows alongside research – dynamic and flexible.
-
Individualized & layered: Information is provided at multiple levels to reach diverse audiences.
-
Participatory: Visitors become users – and co-creators.
-
Multimodal & immersive: A multi-sensory experience that combines design, technology, and science communication with high-quality interaction.
