Gargi Joshi
I am a materials scientist with specific interest in the self-assembly of liquid crystalline biomaterials. Organisms have advanced hierarchical structures organized over dimensional length-scales, their main component quite often being polysaccharides. By manipulating the liquid crystalline state of polysaccharide aqueous solution and subsequently controlling their self-assembly, I aspire to unravel their structure-functional facet.
Presently, I am elucidating the chitin-protein-water interactions within the arthropod cuticle from molecular scale and how it ultimately contributes towards modulating the material strength.
