Working at BIOTEC
BIOTEC as an employer
BIOTEC sees itself as an open-minded and international research institute in a university context. It combines cutting-edge interdisciplinary research with university teaching and actively promotes all levels of career development. After all, what makes BIOTEC special are the people, who work here. Currently, BIOTEC employs about 200 people of international origin, who are committed to tolerant and creative coexistence. All of them work according to the rules of good scientific practice. The basic values of coexistence in a democratic society – open-mindedness to the world and tolerance, humanity and respect - are values that we represent and regard as the basis for excellence in research and teaching.
We strive to work at one level and want to give everyone the chance to contribute, which is why we try to keep hierarchies flat. It is important to us that everyone finds the best possible working conditions and a healthy work-life balance in order to use their personal strengths and to be able to develop professionally. This not only includes opportunities for flexible working hours, but also to participate in internal and external training courses e.g. offered by CMCB and TU Dresden. Networking and regular exchanges of experience are also encouraged, as well as informal meetings after work to spend quality time together and promote team spirit.
The BIOTEC Network
BIOTEC was founded in 2000 as an interdisciplinary scientific independent institute of the TU Dresden. Since 2016, BIOTEC together with the institutes B CUBE and CRTD is now organized under one organizational umbrella, the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB). The CMCB serves to strengthen the synergies between these scientifically independent institutions in order to advance the strategic development in the university, teaching and the provision of scientific infrastructure (e.g. the CMCB Technology Platform) and administrative services (e.g. IT, PR).
Networking and collaborations outside of the CMCB are also essential and are supported by the location in the heart of Dresden's Johannstadt - here, important partner institutions can be found in the immediate vicinity, e.g. Physics of Life (PoL), Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD),Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden. But also the partners of the research association DRESDEN-concept are essential to develop synergies in the scientific field and this collaboration is seen as the key to success in Dresden.
