Flexible Design of Degree Programmes
The program is aimed at university lecturers, course managers and students, and is intended to enable more flexible and individual studies of undergraduate courses. Among others, this is to prevent students from having to drop out of their studies due to their financial or family situation. In order to be able to guarantee the greatest possible flexibility in terms of time and location for working students, e-learning components are provided as an extension for teaching the course content. As a result, additional offers are created according to requirements, which do not necessarily change the classic full-time course fundamentally. However, they make studying more flexible and individual, which means that both “classic” full-time and part-time students can benefit.
About SFG
The project "Flexible Design of Study Programs (SFG)" is funded by the Higher Education Pact as part of the TU Dresden's study success concept. The project started on July 1st, 2016 and will run until June 30th, 2021.
The aim of the project is to make study programs more flexible, both on course and on degree program level. This may involve both the digitization of teaching materials and a rethinking of course and examination planning. The project aims at developing and testing a process model of how various flexibility concepts can be implemented at the TU Dresden. In addition, an advisory and contact point for those responsible for the degree program is set up.
Increase flexibility in your studies with e-learning offers? Now you can, too.
Do you want to hold online lectures with external speakers? Or provide your practice materials as tests that can be evaluated automatically? Then let an e-scout advise you in which scenario you can implement your content. The e-scout takes over the transfer of your content to the corresponding e-learning tool and supervises it.
E-scouts are student assistants who are trained and instructed by the Media Centre as part of the “Flexible Design of Study Programs” project. These are available to you for the implementation and supervision of a specific scenario to make your course more flexible. Subsequently, a short evaluation determines which flexibility options your students have taken advantage of.
In order to prove the concept across the board, the e-scout training will be tested as an interactive online seminar course during the summer semester 2020/2021.
Background
The options for flexible studies are set by the TU Dresden in various quality objectives and strategy papers:
- Quality objective for study and teaching
Quality objective 8.1: "A transition to flexible studies should enable individual study planning (e.g. in the form of a part-time study to ensure the care of children and care of relatives), guarantee its implementation and facilitate through advice. "
More Information on the quality objectives - Guiding ideas for teaching
Guiding idea (6): "A high degree of flexibility in access to studies, during studies, during graduation and further training should support learning success (...)"
More information on the quality objectives - Audit family-friendly university
Goal 2.2: "The possibilities of flexible study organization (including compensation for disadvantages, part-time studies, individual special study plans) are known and expanded."
More information on the family-friendly university audit - E-learning strategy
Field of action "Promote individuality and interaction": "Consequently, measures are required which, among other things, make it possible to use various digital learning resources to create learning situations that are flexible in terms of time and location, to acquire and deepen knowledge and skills independently and in a group, to repeat or catch up as well as to carry out individual learning progress controls. In this way, individual and interactive learning processes can also be implemented in mass operations and in the future increase the success of the course. "
More information on the strategy
The planned measures in these areas are currently only partially implemented and can be optimized.
The project intends to carry forward these ideas and show ways in which the objectives for a more flexible range of courses can be achieved. For this purpose, individual measures are tested and documented. An advisory service will be created for those interested and those responsible for the course.
