DIGIVID – Digital Competences Unleashed: Education and Training of Digital Competences in the era of CoVid-19
In the digital era, information literacy and digital competences are social key competences in technology-enhanced learning settings as well as in educational/professional environments. This holds especially true during the current CoVid-19 pandemic, where on short notice a sudden shift from traditional face-to-face to online teaching and learning took place. Instructors and (teacher-)students did not have the time to acquire profound knowledge and skills for navigating the digital world and making use of the different opportunities that online-teaching and learning provide.
The DIGIVID Erasmus+ Project is aiming at supporting individuals such as instructors in schools and universities and teacher-students in acquiring and developing digital skills and key competences to improve their (inclusive) online teaching and learning. To do so, we plan to develop the DIGIVID Curriculum based upon the DigComp 2.1 and DigCompEdu frameworks and enhanced with content for inclusive online teaching and learning strategies. Additionally, we will develop the DIGIVIDget – a teaching and learning widget that visualises the content of the DIGIVID Curriculum along learning goals (stating what skills/competences can/should be acquired) and, thus, making the DIGIVID Curriculum easily accessible to our target users.
At the end of February, our third DIGIVID Workshop with pre-service teachers took place. In this workshop, we successfully discussed with eight participants (4 from Austria, 4 from Germany) four of the five modules of our DIGIVID Curriculum. For each of the modules, we have defined relevant topics as well as related well-formulated learning goals. We divided our participants into four groups and discussed module 1-4 in detail and adapted the content of the DIGIVID curriculum afterwards according to their input.
Furthermore, the TEPE International Conference 2022 on "Enhancing the value of teacher education research: Implications for policy and practice" took place at the University of Graz from 11th to 13th of April 2022. This annual scientific event brings together experts in teacher education from all over the world. At this conference Dr. Angela Fessl presented the DIGIVID project and first results regarding all three workshops conducted for developing the DIGIVID curriculum: “Digital competences for teaching and learning: developing a curriculum for in-service and pre-service teachers”.
Next up is the fourth DIGIVID Workshop, which will be held in German (“Haben Sie Lust Ihre Digitalen Kompetenzen zu stärken und an der Entwicklung eines Curriculums zu diesem Thema mitzuwirken?”). It follows the motto “5 modules - 5 tools” - meaning that we plan to discuss the topics and learning goals of the 5 DIGIVID modules by instroducingand using 5 different digital tools that allow working online together in an interactive way. The official invitation can be found here. If you know in-service teachers that might be interested in this workshop, please send them our invitation!
