GA Writing Retreat
Program description and target group
From the 5th to the 10th of September 2021, the GA Writing Retreat is taking place for the fifth time. Doctoral candidates and postdocs who would like to take a break from the hectic daily university routine and to fully concentrate on the writing of their academic texts are invited to take part.
Twenty doctoral or postdoctoral GA members will have the chance to attend this five-day event at the meeting center of the St. Marienthal monastery.
Program
Between the 5th and the 10th of September at the St. Marienthal monastery, academic writing and your doctoral dissertation are in the focus. Every day, there will be set writing times – about four hours in the mornings, and another two hours during the afternoons. On top of that, a varied program will be on offer: A morning warm-up session, writing tips, exchanging ideas in small groups, individual discussions with writing coaches, an evening program and the opportunity to exchange experiences in a relaxed atmosphere and to pick up further suggestions for making your writing more professional.

Arrival is on the 5th of September. A bus transportation from the Graduate Academy to the St. Marienthal monastery can be organized upon request. The kick-off of the GA Writing Retreat will take place in the afternoon of the 5th of September. The core working period is from the 6th to the 9th of September. Departure is on the 10th of September in the early afternoon.
Participants are expected to attend the GA Writing Retreat during its whole duration.
Costs
Participation at the GA Writing Retreat, accomodation and meals at the St. Marienthal monastery are free of charge for the participants.
If your application is successful, participation is binding. In the case of cancellation, the Graduate Academy reserves the right to reclaim the cancellation fees from the candidate.

- Completed application form, the pdf form is available here,
- A comprehensive motivation letter including your motivation to attend the GA Writing Retreat and your expectations regarding the program and the type of text you are intending to work on,
- Your CV,
- A declaration of support from your supervisor resp. direct superior, the pdf form is available here.
