On April 16, 2023, the Golden Blogger Award honored choice contributions to social media for the 16th time. Prof. Simon Meier-Vieracker, Chair of Applied Linguistics at TU Dresden was one of this year’s winners. The gala was broadcast live from Düsseldorf and the winners were chosen by viewers who cast their votes online as well as by votes from previous winners from the Golden Blogger Academy.

Meier-Vieracker won both the audience and academy votes for the TikTok category. Under the username @fussballinguist, he posts videos with the hastag #LinguisTikTok on the video hosting service, sharing interesting and entertaining facts about the German language and his professional life as a professor with his almost 80,000 followers. On Twitter, where he also writes under the @fussballinguist handle, Meier-Vieracker expressed his delight for the award: “I actually won an influencer prize! For my #LinguisTikTok format! I’m honored! It’s a good day for #ScienceCommunication!”
