Social Sciences Meet Health Care: Inclusive Innovation in Health Care
"Social Sciences Meet Health Care: Inclusive Innovation in Health Care" is the subject of this year's Interdisciplinary Summer School hosted by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. From 21st to 26th September 2014, excellent PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and professors from 17 countries will discuss research ideas and explore the city of Dresden. The Summer School focuses on new developments and technologies in the health sector and their effects on society. "We want to discuss, inter alia, how these innovations can provide access to high-quality health care for disenfranchised people." says Dr. Sebastian Gurtner. He organizes the Summer School, supported by the research group InnoTech4Health.
27 scientists from all over the world will participate in this event. The longest journey has to be made by participants from New Zealand, China, Canada and the United States. The organizers will also welcome European guests from Spain, Switzerland and Denmark. "We are looking forward to meeting our guests and are excited about the academic exchange as well as the joint activities." says Sebastian Gurtner. In addition to the participants, renowned international speakers will attend the Summer School. The most important key note speaker is Professor Gerry George. He is Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Imperial College London, Director of the Rajiv Gandhi International Centre and Dean of the BML Munjal University in India. The organizers of the Summer School are especially proud of this: "For us, he is particularly important because Prof. George has significantly contributed to define the term “Inclusive Innovation”. Furthermore, he is the editor of the Academy of Management Journal - one of the most important empirical journals in the field of management." Overall, nine international and six national speakers participate in the event. Among them are renowned researchers from the Netherlands, Costa Rica and the United States. During the Summer School, they will open up every day's program with impulse lectures. "Afterwards, the participants will present their own research on ‘Inclusive Innovation in Health Care’ in poster sessions, where they will receive feedback and suggestions for further studies in small groups. Every afternoon workshops will take place, in which the participants enrich their knowledge to different perspectives," Sebastian Gurtner says with regard to the daily program. "Nearly every evening, there will be a social event. Here, we want to show the participants the city of Dresden with its various facets and allow for informal exchange between the scientists. The highlight will be the joint evening event with the participants of all five summer schools on September 24th."
The aim of the Summer School is to facilitate individual research of the participants , to enable an intensive knowledge transfer and thereby to create a sustainable, world-wide research network. "We want to establish a long-term collaboration of researchers and build up a knowledge cluster on the topic of 'Inclusive Innovation in Health Care". says Sebastian Gurtner. The "Interdisciplinary Summer School - Social Sciences Meet Health Care" is an initiative of the so-called Future Concept of the TU Dresden and is supported by the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments.
