Participants wanted: How do people over 60 use social media?
How do people over 60 use Facebook, WhatsApp or Instagram? What role do the services play in their everyday lives? How do they use the platforms to keep themselves informed - be it about the latest news or their friends' vacations? A team of IfK researchers led by Junior Professor Dr. Anna Kümpel is currently investigating these questions. The study is part of their DFG-funded research project on the online information use of senior citizens, which aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of the perceptions, experiences and usage practices of older people when using social media.
Among other things, the team is conducting an innovative interview study for which it is currently looking for participants aged 60 and over. The study starts with a preliminary online survey (approx. 15 minutes). Anyone who belongs to the target group and wants to take part will be invited for an interview (approx. 60 minutes). This interview will also include a specially created, personalized social media page. The interview will take place in summer 2024 at TU Dresden or via video call. All data will of course be analyzed anonymously. Best of all, anyone who takes part in both surveys will receive a thank-you gift of 50 euros.
Do you know someone who might be interested in the study - or would you like to take part yourself? Here is the link to the online pre-survey.
You can find more information about the project on our website.
The team is looking forward to your participation!
